Grade 10 student Jack McShane is leading the Ingenuity team, bringing his experience from last year's F1 in Schools competition into play to help during the finals events on Tuesday and Wednesday.
"It's not just about the car; it's about aerodynamics, mechanics and hands-on tools," Jack said.
"It's an introduction for people to different things that prepare them for the workplace."
Jack said he picked up tips on how to improve his team's car performance across the 20-metre course through previous competitions.
"The car had to be extended, but we also had to make sure it adhered to the rules. The most important thing is producing a car that can make it to the finish line," he said.
First-time competitor Charlotte Gould, from grade 8, has taken on the team leader role for the Celetas team.
Charlotte said she had been soaking up knowledge and experience from other team members and Queechy students.
"I just came into [F1 in Schools] this year and haven't been in any competitions yet," she said.
"I've learned about having to work as a team to get it done. I have been asking for mentoring from the team manager and had information sheets to get up to speed."

Despite being new to the competition, Charlotte said the fun and learning opportunities enticed her to join in.
