Joshua Josef Barker, of Kings Meadows, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Dale James Watson and assaulting Timothy John Bumford on March 9, 2018.
The court heard Mr Watson was walking on Knox Street at Prospect Vale when Mr Barker revved his engine, mounted the kerb and hit the pedestrian.
THE TRIAL
While giving evidence on the second day of the Launceston Supreme Court trial, Michael Mansell said he was inside his Prospect Vale house with the front door open when he heard a car accelerating heavily.
"I thought it was some young hoons from around the corner," he said.
Mr Mansell went outside after hearing a thud and that's when he saw the body of Mr Watson, the jury was told.
Another neighbour, Mervyn Payne, told the court he saw a body in the driveway across from his house after hearing a mighty crash and scream.
Mr Payne rushed over to find Mr Mansell already helping the man on the ground, the court heard.
IN OTHER NEWS
Mr Mansell said he placed tarpaulin over the body once he realised there was nothing more that could be done for Mr Watson.
Mood Food Grand Central employee Erica Housego and Petbarn employee Debbie Cashion also took the stand on Tuesday.
Both women served Mr Barker at their respective workplaces on the morning of the alleged hit-run.
Mr Barker arrived at Mood Food about 6.30am on March 9, with CCTV showing him twice entering the store and purchasing items.
Ms Housego told the court Mr Barker was quiet and polite on their first interaction, but he made her feel uncomfortable a short time later.
Mr Barker asked Ms Housego if he knew her and if she believed in God, the jury was told.
"He made me feel a little bit more uncomfortable the second time," Ms Housego said.
