That day a Northern Bombers outfit boasting future senior premiership stars Josh Ponting, Dakota Bannister, Jack Avent, Jay Foon and Jay Lockhart held off Launceston by two points in a game where the two sides were never separated by more than a goal.
A similar kind of match is on the cards this weekend when North look to break a seven-year drought against Kingborough.
Having come from fifth spot to fall at the final hurdle last season, the Bombers finished second this year and suffered a one-point semi-final loss to Tigers in extra time before advancing to the grand final with a win over Lauderdale.
TSL grand final debutant Kingborough has won three of the four clashes between the two sides this year - including twice by a single point - but North skipper Matthew Cossins is confident his side has what it takes to win on the day that counts.
"We've had a few changes since we played them last," the 19-year-old said.
"I think we're a good running team and that's the way we get on top of other teams - carrying the ball, outrunning teams and get over the top of them late.
"Kingborough on the other hand are pretty good at that as well, so it's going to come down to who can do it for longer."
A George Town junior and a former Port Dalrymple School student, Cossins arrived at North for under-16s and made his senior debut last year.
The university student has not returned to the senior line-up this year but has impressed in leading his troops to a second straight decider.
TIME TO DECIDE:
"It would mean a lot," Cossins said when asked to hypothesise about another Bombers flag.
"A lot of hard work goes into playing football throughout the year and just that one day you need to get that one win.
"There's been a lot of change from last year - a lot of new people in and a few people left, but I feel like the camaraderie between the team is still there so I still back all of our teammates to get the job done."
The Bombers look set to be forced into at least one change after Che Haines broke his hand in last weekend's preliminary final.
"He'll miss this week but he's been positive towards the group even though it's pretty negative for him," Cossins said.
"It's good on his behalf that he can keep the group up and positive even when he's probably not feeling the best himself."
Saturday's grand final will be played at Bellerive Oval at 9.40am.
