Jake Kolodjashnij on Friday was one of many Geelong players that proved that old saying "a week's a long time in football" is one that rings true.

A week after being well below his best in the qualifying final loss to Collingwood, he rectified that in a starring role down back as the Cats ended the season of the reigning premier West Coast.
Despite the fact he had Jack Darling as an opponent during the night (who was the Eagles' best in front of goal with 3.0), Kolodjashnij was still able to have a strong impact down back with 14 possessions (six intercepts) at 92.9 per cent disposal efficiency, six marks (two intercepts), two tackles, two score involvements, four rebound 50s and two inside 50s, with his intercept work a highlight.
It was a performance that caught the eye, with Kolodjashnij collecting four votes in the AFL Coaches Association Gary Ayres Award for best player of the finals series.
Friday night was Kolodjashnij's eighth final with Friday's preliminary final outing against Richmond set to be his third prelim.
Kolodjashnij has played 92 games since being drafted with pick 41 in the 2013 national draft, including 22 this year.
Geelong's success on Friday also all but ensured there would be some Tasmanian involvement in this season's grand final with the Tigers' line-up featuring Clarence's Jack Riewoldt and George Town's Toby Nankervis, with Clarence youngster Fraser Turner and Burnie's Maverick Weller also on their list.
The other preliminary final between Collingwood and Greater Western Sydney will likely feature Magpies Jeremy Howe and Brody Mihocek, with the importance of Mihocek growing due to the absence of Jordan De Goey due to a hamstring injury.
