Mr Purkiss was the last person to see Mr Davies alive on May 26, 2017, with his body found in a shallow grave at Levendale just over a week later.
Mr Purkiss and Mr Davies' wife, Margaret Anne Otto, are jointly charged for the murder of Mr Davies and both have pleaded not guilty.
MORE FROM THE TRIAL:
In a second interview with police conducted on May 30, 2017, Mr Purkiss said he was "fairly confident" police would not find evidence of foul play at his Elderslie home or in his vehicle.
The court has previously heard evidence Mr Davies had gone to visit Mr Purkiss at Elderslie on the night he was last seen.
In opening submissions, Crown prosecutor Madeleine Wilson alleged Mr Purkiss shot Mr Davies in a small cannabis grow shed on the property and later moved his body to Levendale.
Tasmania Police Detective Constable George Stirling attended Mr Purkiss' Elderslie property on May 30, 2017.
Detective Constable Stirling told the court on Monday a black belt with a Jack Daniels buckle was collected from behind the cannabis grow shed and he observed tire marks from a gate near the driveway up to the shed.
"You could clearly see something large had been dragged from to shed to where the tire marks stopped," Detective Constable Stirling said.
The court heard the shed itself was locked and not examined at this time but evidence has been given, when the property was declared a crime scene, it was examined by forensic services and blood and brain matter were found.

Accused pair 'close'
In the interview Mr Purkiss said he had an intimate relationship with Ms Otto "to a point" and the two were "close".
"I do care about her," Mr Purkiss said in a video of the interview.
Mr Purkiss said he was not aware of issues between Ms Otto and Mr Davies.
"I just know when the door was shut different things were happening behind that door," Mr Purkiss said.
"It's come to light with her talking to police."
Mr Purkiss said in the interview after Mr Davies allegedly left his house he went to visit his father, contradicting his previous statement he was home with his partner Jillian Roberts.
Mr Purkiss also denied going shooting with his father two nights before and told police the last time he shot a gun was "about a week ago".
When questioned about inconsistencies in his statement, Mr Purkiss said recent events all felt like one day.
"So much s--- [has] gone on in my life. I don't know what day it is, I don't know what time it is," Mr Purkiss said.
The trial before Chief Justice Alan Blow continues.
