The Big Breakfast will take place in October and is aimed raising much-needed funds for The Smith Family, who provide vital assistance to disadvantaged children across the state.

Programs coordinator Shannon Anis said they were excited and very grateful.

"We're an independent charity working with disadvantaged families and we really do some great things with our students," she said.

"Breakfast is an extremely important meal for students to concentrate, and we know that a number of children turn up at school each day without having breakfast."

One of the highlights of The Big Breakfast campaign will be an event held on October 18 at Civic Square.

A breakfast will support and raise funds for the campaign, with The Smith Family Tasmania general manager Lesley Mackay to speak, and an egg and spoon race set to take place.

"We're looking forward to a bit of healthy competition, so we encourage everyone to get along and support Tasmanian families and disadvantaged students," Ms Anis said.
