In a post on Facebook, club president Danny Linger said City's final game of the season at Olympia on Saturday "marked the retirement of our much loved and respected" coach.

He said it was: "A sad day for the club and a loss to soccer in Tasmania" and paid tribute to Sciulli's dedication to the City cause.

"This season saw Lino's welcome return to the Launceston City Soccer Family, and along with his very able assistant coach, Darren Cook, worked tirelessly all season with our young NPL squad.

"It's almost impossible to appreciate the level of commitment both these men have shown all season on the cold and wet training nights and very long days travelling to away games.

"The Launceston City FC committee wish to extend our best wishes to Lino for whatever the future holds, his weekends will never be the same! I'm sure Lino will be looking forward to trading soccer balls for golf balls and breakfast in bed maybe."

In characteristic fashion, Sciulli was reluctant to wallow in the announcement, but did question use of the 'r' word.

"I have not retired, I have just said that I will not be going around again," he said.

The 55-year-old club life member has spent five years coaching at statewide level, beginning with two at City, followed by two at Northern Rangers then one more at City.

He previously coached under-16s and under-20s at City where he also played from 1978 to 2012.

Asked how he reflected on the club's 2019 NPL Tasmania campaign, the straight-talking coach did not mince his words.

"Unsuccessful," he said. "You cannot sit mid-table and claim to be successful."
