Clean Up Local was started by six-year-old Harper Ling on Facebook and is dedicated to ridding roadsides and recreational areas around Launceston of waste.

Harper's father Marcus Ling said their previous effort in Rocherlea resulted in 30 bags being filled.

"[That] was our biggest by far and a fair bit of hard waste was collected," Mr Ling said.

"That was our biggest turnout also, I think we had about 40 people turn up to that... it was a really good day, everyone was keen and it was really great to see."

Sunday's effort at the Tailrace resulted in 11 bags being collected.

"It's fantastic [to see]; family, friends and strangers," Mr Ling said.

"I just spoke to a mate of mine: Benny who I hadn't seen in five years just showed up which was fantastic so a really good turnout."

The group picks a different spot each month, Mr Ling said they are now looking to where next month's clean up will be.

"It's just a matter of finding more sites to do and that sort of thing ... we've sort of been told about the Mowbray or Dover area, that's being considered," he said.

"Then probably the highway again, we'll cycle through because that's getting pretty messy again.

"We'll probably start to branch just a little bit further afield, maybe head out to Legana and places like that and maybe Longford or Perth as well might be an option if there are areas out there as well."

Mr Ling also said the group was invited to participate in the Catch it in the Catchment event in November.

"We're going to get with the volunteers there on a day to get a lot of the rubbish at the beaches before it gets into the river and affects marine life," he said.

"That was sort of half the concern of Harp's which was to keep marine life safe - not to affect them with our doings."
