Having worked his way up the ranks from a physio role at Auckland Aces, the native Brit travelled with New Zealand to this year's World Cup before landing his first gig in Australia last month.

Speaking in Hobart on Friday, Insley said he was excited to become one of few high performance staff to cross the ditch east to west.

"It's been a pretty special journey for me personally," Insley said.

"I initially got knocked back when I went for a couple of jobs in sport academy roles in professional football [in England] - they said I didn't have enough experience.

"I've always felt experience is only what you go out and experience, so I decided to move to the other side of the world and as opportunities came up I was very fortunate.

"I had the opportunity to either go straight into cricket or into football with Wellington Phoenix and I chose cricket."

Insley has been employed on an open-ended contract and will oversee the state's men's and women's programs, as well as sports science, sports medicine and premier cricket coaching and umpiring pathways.

He has met with predecessor Ginn on several occasions and tasked himself with leaving the program 'better than he found it'.

"I think Tasmania being the smallest state means we have the best opportunity to have the best alignment between all the programs, between our community and the board to have the best cricket program in Australia - if not the world," he said.

Insley's arrival comes one week after Cricket Tasmania chief executive Nick Cummins announced his departure after nearly three years at the helm.

Cummins has accepted the role of Victoria's Big Bash manager, with a replacement expected to be appointed by the new year.
