The saying "favourite son" is thrown around throughout sporting circles but no one can dispute that Lilydale's Thane Bardenhagen embodies the meaning.

The 2017 premiership coach will run out in the red, white and blue for the 150th time in Saturday's NTFA grand final against St Pats as he aims to repeat the effort from two years ago - this time as Colin Lockhart's assistant.
"Obviously it's a great achievement and something I'm very proud of, playing 150 games for my home club. I've had a few stints here and there in between but I've got there in the end," he said.
Playing for South Launceston, Bardenhagen picked up a TSL premiership alongside the likes of Mitch Thorp, Dylan Riley and current St Pats coach Alex Russell, taking the Matthew Richardson Medal for State League rookie of the year in 2013.

Moving on to Western Storm as they replaced the Bulldogs in 2014, another year of spoils met the midfielder, playing in the Australian-wide Foxtel Cup, the Tasmanian TSL side and being named in the competition's team of the year.
Returning to the Demons in 2016, it didn't take long for him to make an impact, claiming the club's best and fairest.
"To play at my home club for that long means a lot to me because of the loyalty and I got to coach a premiership out there and I played all my junior footy there.
"[The premiership] is probably the highlight of my career so far. That along with the TSL grand final, doing it with Colin who is now the coach, I feel like I owe him one to get one back this Saturday.
NTFA FINALS FEVER
"I would love to get Colin Lockhart one as coach, since he helped me get one in 2017 but just as a group, to top off a perfect season would be great."
Assistant coach for the Demons' 2017 triumph before taking the reins last season, Lockhart couldn't be more complimentary of Bardenhagen's contributions to his much-loved club.
"You talk about quality people and quality families, like I just can't wait and he really deserves it," Lockhart said.
"I know they've [St Pats] got a couple of milestone games but Thane's something special for the town and for the players.
"I think most blokes are a bit nervous of letting him down but we will do our utmost to get it done."
Saturday's NTFA division one grand final clash gets underway at 2pm at Windsor Park.
