The importance of management was at the heart of the discussion, mayor Wayne Johnston said.
"Council requested the attendance of key staff from Games Services Tasmania to discuss wild fallow deer in the Meander Valley area," he said.
Games Services are keen to work with the council and community groups for the management of fallow deer, and recognise the diversity of views that exist, the council said.

The body was was established last year to support landowners and hunters to effectively manage issues relating to game and browsing animals.
A state-wide census of fallow deer will be completed by the state government to help inform future management strategies.
Games Services Tasmania can provide advice and information about wild fallow deer and the responsibilities associated with recreational game licenses.
"I encourage residents who have feedback or questions about fallow deer to contact Games Services. The views of the community are important in informing the development of management strategies," Mr Johnston said.
