At its meeting on Thursday, it unanimously approved the Draft Launceston Local Provisions Schedule.
This means the council will now lodge the draft plan with the Tasmanian Planning Commission for assessment, which will be followed by public consultation.
Amendments to the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act started in 2015, with the aim to provide a single planning scheme for Tasmania. Each council currently has its own scheme.

The City of Launceston council sent about 7500 individually addressed letters to landowners in July to inform them about a potential zone change, a change to a heritage listing status or scenic management overlay.
More than 400 landowners contacted the council for clarification, and to provide feedback on the proposed draft changes.
