Adrian Michael Johnson, of Low Head, has pleaded not guilty to wounding Shane Baker in the early hours of May 28, 2017.
The second day of the Launceston Supreme Court trial heard from Mr Barker's friend Luke Edwards and Mr Johnson's partner Angela Palmer.

Mr Edwards and Mr Baker left Grays Hotel on Macquarie Street at closing and walked to the takeaway shop up the road, the court heard.
Mr Edwards said they heard yelling coming from the car park after leaving the takeaway shop, so they went to make sure everything was OK. The court heard Mr Edwards was approached by two women and while they were talking he saw a man punch Mr Baker.
Mr Edwards said he ran over to attack the man so he would get off Mr Baker.
The court heard it wasn't until Mr Edwards caught up with Mr Baker, who'd walked towards the George Town Medical Centre, that he saw a big gash near his eye and blood on his face.
TIME TO DECIDE
Ms Palmer told the court she left the hotel with her partner and two friends, walked to the takeaway, got food and left.
Ms Palmer said they were talking loudly as they worked out where to go next.
The court heard Ms Palmer told Mr Johnson she was going and started walking in the direction of her friend's house.
Ms Palmer said she looked back at her partner and saw two men coming towards him, so she dropped her bag and walked over.
"By the time I got to Adrian he was on the ground and someone was on top of him," she said.
The court also heard from Ms Palmer's friend Leah Doolan, who was with the couple on the night. Ms Doolan was questioned by Crown prosecutor Emily Judd about discrepancies between the evidence she gave in court and her police statement. Ms Doolan said there was a lot police didn't put into her statement.
The trial continues.
