Newstead College is taking Little Shop of Horrors to the Earl Arts Centre stage with a cast and crew of 30 in rehearsals since February.
The performance follows Seymour - a shop employee - in a struggling community, who is in love with his co-worker called Audrey, performer Madi Digney said.
"His shop is falling on really hard times until Seymour creates the Audrey II which is a plant that can bring his success to fame, but it comes with the cost that the plant craves human blood," she said.
"So he actually has to feed the plant in order to gain the success he desires."
Madi, who plays Ms Mushnik, said the whole experience had been positive. Performing her second production with the college.
"I love performing and I feel so nurtured in the team that I'm in. We're very close and it's a very supportive environment to be in," she said.
Oliver Hargrave admits he is not as used to performing as some of his other cast members, but is taking his role as Seymour Krelborn in his stride. He said perfecting the New York accent was one of the biggest challenges.
"It's been months and months of constant practice; looking at videos ... as well as trying to sing in that accent because that's a whole other ball game," he said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Audrey is being performed by Toni Prestage, who said the performance has brought the group closer together.
"I think that we're all really good friends and being a small cast that has really helped," she said.
"There are roughly only 30 people in our cast and crew, but they've all done so much and are working so hard for the show because it does require a lot of man power behind the stage with the puppeteers."
Nine shows will be preformed at the Earl Arts Centre from Wednesday until Sunday.
Tickets can be purchased from Theatre North.
