The work includes installing a roundabout, without the need for traffic lights, to replace the outdated turning arrangement at the intersection of East Tamar Highway and Mowbray Link, Infrastructure Minister Michael Ferguson said.
"The roundabout will make turning much safer and easier for road users travelling in and out of Mowbray Link, and has been designed to allow traffic travelling north past the intersection to do so directly, without even entering the roundabout," he said.

Once complete, an 80km/h speed limit will be in place between Forster Street and Mowbray Connector, and between University Way and Forster Street.
During the works, the East Tamar Highway, and Mowbray Link will remain open, with a reduced speed limit and regular lane closure.
The upgrade is expected to be completed by April next year.
