Swimmers of all abilities are invited to make a splash in the medley pentathlon at the Launceston Aquatic Centre on Sunday, September 15.
The pentathlon has not been held since 2014, when it was run in Launceston by Swimming Tasmania, according to Launceston Aquatic Club president Amanda Muldoon.
The meet would help 'fill the void' and motivate younger swimmers to keep training.
"LAC noticed that there was a gap in the swimming calendar with no events between state championships (August 10-11) and the end of the winter season (September 30)," she said.
"While the senior swimmers are concentrating on state teams' event at the AIS in Canberra in October, there was nothing to keep the younger swimmers interested in training.
"However, we wanted a meet with a difference. With a medley pentathlon, the swimmers must compete in all five events - each individual stroke (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle) and the individual medley event, with the times of the race events combined.
The winner in each age group will be the fastest swimmer when all events are totalled.
"This might shake up the placings a little and reward the swimmer who is consistently good across all four strokes even if not the fastest at any individual stroke.
"We didn't want the meet to be just a rerun of regional or state championships.
"We will be awarding prizes, but the major focus is on the swimmers and their families having a great time celebrating the end of the season with a fun meet."
There are cash prizes for age group winners, from nine-and-under to 16-plus, lucky door prizes, giveaways and raffles.
"We have invited swimmers from across Tasmania to come and celebrate swimming and competing in a fun meet.
"We are hoping it will be a success and a regular feature at the end of the winter season."
Entries for competitive swimmers is through the Swim Central online portal.
Entries close at midnight on September 9.
The event is also open to unregistered or recreational swimmers who need to email launcestonaquaticclub@gmail.com to enter.
Race entry is $8 for one event or $40 for five.
The medley pentathlon is on September 15 at the Launceston Aquatic Centre with warm-up at 9.30am and competition from 10am.
