Tasmanian Labor members have paid tribute to former prime minister Bob Hawke at the party's state conference.

Tasmanian Labor senator Carol Brown said Mr Hawke championed causes even if they were unpopular.
"[He] was a true believer. Labor through and through," Senator Brown said.
"Bob Hawke changed the nation and with his passing the Labor party gives thanks for his vision."
Unions Tasmania secretary Jessica Munday said she grew up in a trade movement union which had been absolutely influenced by Mr Hawke's contribution.
"He was an absolute giant of the trade union movement," Ms Munday said.
"He was a brilliant industrial advocate."
Labor deputy leader Michelle O'Byrne said Mr Hawke's 1983 campaign led to her political awakening.
Ms O'Byrne spoke of Mr Hawke's contribution to improving working and other rights for women.
"We will miss you Bob Hawke, you feminist you," Ms O'Byrne said.
