National Skills Week is aimed at raising awareness around vocational education training [VET] courses and their importance in building their associated industries in Australia.
In other news:
Teacher at Newstead college and competition coordinator Sharon Turner said the competition helped students test their beauty talents.
"A lot of them go on to do Tafe things or other avenues and a challenge like a competition really puts them in the deep end," she said.
TIME TO DECIDE:
The competition, held on August 29, was split into two parts: hair and makeup.
The students that participated in the competitions were part of VET courses retail cosmetics and salon assistance. Ms Turner said her students had come a long way in developing their cosmetics skills.
"I can't believe what they've come up with today, today has been so much better than what I've seen in their practices," she said.
