The man, in his 80s, was driving on the Huon Highway near Dover.
Tasmania Police said his car crossed onto the incorrect side of the road and hit a tree.
The crash occurred about 2.25pm.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash, but do not believe alcohol, drugs, and speed are factors at this stage.
