The service is part of the rideshare app Uber, which launched in Launceston more than a year ago.

Head of New Zealand and regional Australia operations Elisa Janiec said the business was excited to be making itself available for Launceston food lovers.

"We're absolutely thrilled to be launching in Launceston," she said.

"It will be the 20th city in Australia we've launched in. It's great to be part of creating a new way for people to get the food they love."

The official launch date has yet to be confirmed, with several steps now being taken to establish the service in Launceston.

An email has been sent out to Launceston Uber and Uber Eats users asking them to fill out a survey of restaurants and food varieties they'd like to see on the app.

"It's all about giving customers their local favourites and what they want - we need eaters to tell us what they want," Ms Janiec said.

If restaurants are interested they can contact ubereats.com/restaurant/signup, those looking to delivery can contact t.uber.com/deliverlaunceston.

"The real benefit for restaurants that want to partner with us [Uber Eats] is we have the opportunity to unlock thousands of new customers, extend opening hours and for restaurants to experiment with new food offerings," Ms Janiec said.

Ms Janiec added that the success of Uber in its first year of operating in the region was a factor in deploying the food delivery service.

"We work really closely with our rideshare partners to understand how business is tracking before we decide whether to launch Uber Eats to make sure that we can deliver a quality reliable service across the platform," she said.

"My colleagues tell me we have a positive and overwhelming response from the Launceston community."
