By all accounts, his efforts in his electorate of Clark and parliament were defined by a strong social compass, but with the knowledge a strong economy and policies were instrumental.
When Mr Bacon was first elected to parliament many people were expecting to have his impact reach all ends of the state, like his father and former premier Jim Bacon.
A Facebook comment back in 2011 also caused a stir in Northern Tasmania.
In a post, Mr Bacon said he was Launceston-bound and posed the question: "is it as bad as I remember".
While the comment, according to Mr Bacon, was meant to be a joke, mayor Albert van Zetten was not convinced.
"If Scott ever goes further in his political career then he needs to look past his own little patch and that's what we need from politicians," he said.
But it is this decision for Mr Bacon to leave his job of 10 years for personal reasons that will potentially have the greatest impact on the state.
Former Labor member Madeleine Ogilvie is most likely to win the seat if she chooses to recontest.
This would throw a spanner in the works for Labor given Ms Ogilvie resigned from the party following the election loss and sits more to the right on issues.
If she recontests as an independent and wins, there will be another politician in parliament who can swing on issues and cause headaches for their original parties.
This would, yet again, bring Speaker Sue Hickey right into the thick of things.
Ms Ogilvie throwing her hat into the ring will also have Labor leader Rebecca White looking over her shoulder after losing a loyal left ally in Mr Bacon with leader-aspirant David O'Byrne likely to move up the ranks and take Mr Bacon's opposition treasury responsibility.
Time will tell if Ms Ogilvie will, firstly, recontest the seat, secondly, if she will rejoin Labor and, thirdly, if she will hold a grudge and cause Labor and Premier Will Hodgman some headaches.
The games will no doubt continue.
