The family escaped the fire thanks to properly installed smoke alarms which sounded about 1am Thursday.
Tragically, Leo the cat disappeared during the fire, but the family later found him apparently dead from smoke inhalation.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The interior of the home was significantly damaged in the blaze.
Tasmania Fire Service fire investigator Shirley Berger said the fire started in the area around the hot water cylinder before spreading to adjoining rooms.
"The occupants of the house were extremely lucky to escape the blaze uninjured having been woken and alerted to the fire by working smoke alarms," Ms Berger said.
"This is a good example to everyone of the importance of having working smoke alarms within your homes, they really do save lives."
Multiple TFS crews attended from Sheffield and Devonport and extinguished the blaze.
The investigation is ongoing.
