It also comes from the seasoned grand final bellwether.

That tag had been reserved over the years for their long-time nemesis, AYC-Friends Arrows, until the Hawks beat them in 2018 after faltering in the previous two attempts.

They went some way to solidify their claims further with a one-goal win over Arrows in a semi-final nailbiter.

But it was Cavaliers by eight goals that ended Arrows reaching the grand final for the first time since 2013.

"It does have a different feel because it has been Arrows, Arrows, Arrows for the last three years. There is a bit of pride because both teams have worked so hard to not have [Arrows] there," Hawks coach Ruth Tuohy said.

Tuohy was effusive in praising the "friendly rivalry".

That extends to the close friendship between Hawks goal ace Ashlea Mawer and Cavs opponent Issy Maskell.

"We always know those games when they're played as derbies, the girls put their game on the line," she said. "It makes it more interesting when a lot of them are playing against actual friends."

By virtue of an extra final, Cavaliers hold a better 17-3 win/loss record ahead of the Silverdome showdown.

Just for that reason alone, Tuohy knows what to expect after being very impressed by their slick ball movement.

"Just watching them Saturday, I saw they were very focused and determined to finish off their good season. There's no way we can underestimate them," she said.

"So, we're going to have to put it out there to take that [premiership] cup home."
