History at Riverside?
Dad (Jeff Garwood) started when he moved from Westbury. He started coaching there and ever since then my brothers have played there and now I'm club captain so there's a fair bit of history there.
Earliest cricket memory?
I remember being down there and watching Dad play cricket and just being in the nets all day and annoying everyone to try and come throw balls at me - nothing has changed.
Hero growing up?
I really enjoyed watching Shane Warne play and Ricky Ponting as well. I loved the way Adam Gilchrist had no fear, he just came out and played and everyone just loved watching Ricky bat.
Best player you've ever played with?
Ollie Law, he's a big standout as a UK import that we had. Back in the day it was Alister Gibbins.
TIME TO DECIDE:
And against?
Dane Anderson would probably be up there.
Best cricketing moment?
Winning the T20 state grand final. We haven't had a lot of success and that was probably one of the better years that we've had so that was a highlight. Last year, getting 142 not out was pretty good too.
Biggest issue in Northern cricket at the moment?
There's a bit of a step between NTCA cricket and Raiders cricket - playing with the Premier League down South. I think it's a good idea and I think a few of the guys need to commit a bit more with cricket. I know it's hard playing all day every Saturday but if we get a bit more commitment out of everyone, I think the competition will be better off for it.
What sets Riverside apart?
At the moment we have a lot of young guys coming through so we are building with those guys and helping them improve their cricket and help us as a club. I just really like the family involvement in the club.
Funniest moment?
I cannot comment to The Examiner for that but I really think last year when Tom Lewis, Pete New and Lyndon Stubbs were talking some absolute trash. I can't remember what it was about but I couldn't stop laughing for about half an hour.
Biggest pest at the club?
Pete New can certainly get pretty annoying. Patty Mackrell is just awful and Lyndon Stubbs says way too many dad jokes.
Key to your success?
Leading the team. When I took over as captain I really wanted to lead the team because I'm obviously saying what we need to do and I'd rather show it than tell people. That's the big thing that helped me last year and hopefully helps me again this year.
100 or a five-wicket haul?
Definitely 100. Cricket's a batter's game so 100 looks better than a five-for.
Played any other sports?
Kicked a few goals for Longford in footy. Leading goal-kicker in under-18s if you want to put that in there as well as soccer and golf.
