The Master Builders Tasmania Awards for Excellence were announced in Hobart on Saturday night and Northern builders scooped the pool.
It has been a big year for development in the state's North, with several highly anticipated buildings being singled out.
Launceston developments C. H. Smith, which has recently sold for $28.8 million; Stillwater's conversion from art gallery and providore to upmarket accommodation, SEVEN; retail and business laneway Milledge Lane; and the Cimitiere House lift, that Examiner staff use daily, were all recognised for their excellence in commercial construction, along with the eagerly awaited St Helens District Hospital.
Margaret Street restoration TwoWoods House shows how modern design and period features can be married to create an exciting home, along with The Fishing Lodge in the Highlands, Glover House and a Pool House to fill out the residential winners.
As reported in late 2018, construction projects like the C.H. Smith building, Milledge Lane and SEVEN are the visual representations of positive business activity, with business confidence rising on the back of such projects - and new construction, like Hotel Verge and Kings Wharf Towers.
However, it is the next generation of builders who will really take these awards in their stride.
State Apprentice of the Year Adam Gelston is using his exposure to different types of construction to make his own mark and mentor younger apprentices to do the same.
And then there is Young Builder of the Year Matthew Barwick, who was in Mr Gelston's position 12 years ago and has used that time to develop his own career and business, Barwick Developments, with his superior workmanship being recognised again.
Congratulations to all the Northern building companies and individuals recognised at the awards this year. Build on!
