The retired Collingwood Magpies defender has spent much of the week travelling the state towards promoting the sport to young females.
Layton has been amazed to discover that the depth of Tasmanian talent is not matched by the representation at the highest level.
Kelsie Rainbow is the only Tasmanian in the Super Netball competition and when the ex-Australian under-20 midcourter gets court time, it has been much off the bench.
Layton said proof that the Tasmanian Magpies won last year's ANL premiership and took the bronze medal a year later that it's only a matter of time before it all changes.
"I would love to see a lot more Tasmanian girls playing for Collingwood," Layton said. "Even doing some school clinics the last couple of days, there is so many young girls with potential."
The indifferent Magpies since their 2017 debut have won both times in Tasmania.
"I'm excited because we're playing here and this is a real home for us," Layton said.
"We struggle to get a bit of a crowd in Melbourne, but Launceston is pretty much sold out and the vibe is loud."
Layton felt players would prefer to play more than just once a season in Tasmania.
"I'd love to see us play more in Tassie, but we'll see how it all plays out," she said.
