Venerable Lama Samten, a visiting Buddhist teacher who was born in Asia and taught in New Zealand for 23 years, will share his insights into 'How to Deal with Conflicting Emotion' in two guest talks at the Palpung Institute, 13-15 Bryan Street, Invermay.

The talks will take place on Sunday, August 18: from 10am - 12pm and again at 2 - 4pm, $25 each or $50 for both sessions.

A vegetarian lunch will be provided - bring your own bowl.

Lama Samten is the author of eight books and is a sought-after speaker on Buddhist thought and practices.

A lama is a high teacher of Buddhism - the Dalai Lama is the highest lama in the hierarchy - but the talk is for anyone with an interest.

Lama Samten was born into a nomad family, and entered into a monastery at the age of five. He fled the country during its communist invasion, and has since taught in New Zealand.

"Whether we are religious or not, successful or not, however old or young we are and whatever culture we come from, emotions affect us all," he said.

"There are positive and negative emotions and our emotions can make our life difficult - it takes time to get what we want and sometimes there are tremendous emotions associated with this."
