The hub, which is located at 31 Tamar Street, Launceston, gives the organisation extra space after it outgrew its former facility at Kings Meadows.

Up to 10 people will work from the Launceston facility, which has a capacity for up to 15 clients at a time.

Speaking at the opening, Multicap Tasmania president Paul Smith said the board and staff were very proud to open the facility in Tamar Street.

"We have been in Launceston for a while, but we have every intention of raising our profile here and build our business. Hopefully we will have the same situation here we had with our previous community access in Launceston - we outgrew it," Mr Smith said.

"We're looking to increase our footprint here. Not only in community access, but we've also got three group homes and are looking to expand that."

City of Launceston mayor Albert van Zetten also spoke at the event, saying how much the community appreciated Multicap Tasmania expanding and growing in the city.

"It's very important for the people to have facilities such as this to come to," Cr van Zetten said.

"Thank you to the Multicap Board, volunteers and all the workers for all the work you are doing in this area... I think often the smiles on people's faces are very rewarding... It's fantastic to see the response and encouragement you can get and I'm sure a space like this is going to help encourage more of that.

"Clients are going to come, feel accepted, feel the warmth of the staff and continue to feel a part of our community as well. We can all work together to make sure we have a very inclusive community," he said.

Multicap Tasmania has operated two group homes in Summerhill and a small community access facility in a nearby property since the 1980s.
