From my observations at meetings over the past three years, some councillors appear to have had little or no training on basic meeting procedures.
My recommendation for the costs for emotional and intelligence training should be deducted from the councillor's allowance - without question.

US Massacres
AUGUST 5, 2019 - Dear Diary, this morning the world continues to grieve yet again after two more massacres within the shores of democracy.
- (The Examiner, August 5) page 5 - a half-page article on how our police force disgracefully again attempts to minimise the damage caused and to validate their disrespectful police state lockdowns.
Damage including more public distrust and less public respect for our police force.
- (The Examiner, August 5) page 7 - a half-page ad, displaying an array of firearms, including a pseudo-military-style firearm.
- (The Examiner, August 5) page 9 - almost full-page article recognising the grief of at least one of the latest US massacres.
- (The Examiner, July 26) issue of Tasmanian Farmer, page 12 displays wonderfully light-hearted photos to expose mental health issues facing farming communities.
- Tasmanian Farmer - page 24 (back page), full-page ad, same or similar to that in The Examiner.
I choose not to use firearms, however, as a farmer's daughter, I have only ever witnessed responsible and humane handling of firearms by farmers.
It is important to recognise, licenced or not, the content of the above-mentioned ads and articles, and ask ourselves, with the increasing level of police state practices, family and public violence, do we as a society, including police, businesses and our media need to take a closer, honest look at ourselves.
Deb Johnston-Andrews, Newnham.
Newstart Allowance
COST to the taxpayer of increasing the Newstart allowance by $50 per week - $3.5 billion.
Cost to the taxpayer of introducing the proposed universal indue welfare card, to minimise the risk that the poor might mishandle cash - $8.4 billion.
Two questions: to which private company will the Indue contract be awarded?
And, why is the Indue proposition not being exposed as a cruel joke?
If we can afford the Indue card we can more than afford reasonable Newstart payments.
Anna Fitzpatrick, Trevallyn.
Heritage Red Tape
KRISTI Seymour, of East Launceston, and the now-infamous red brick wall has literally hit a wall of red tape and heritage that she could never have seen coming (The Examiner, August 7).
And what a load of red tape she found building acts, building permits, heritage rules, council regulations, planning schemes and so on.
All because she had part of a wall pulled down as it was dangerous and the wall was not heritage listed even so all hell broke loss.
Even though Ms Seymour has stated the wall will be reinstated from the start, City of Launceston council as if it had nothing else better to do has made this a No.1 priority item of business.
I bet if she had approached the heritage council for help in fixing her wall she would have hit an even bigger brick wall.
David Parker, West Launceston.
Nuclear Power
INTRODUCE nuclear power to Australia.
Put the nuclear waste on the moon.
Leon Cooper, Longford.
Missing Member
IT'S been months since the federal election, and despite many promises from the new Bass Liberal MHR Bridget Archer, I still am waiting for an announcement of any of the promises. Maybe she is out of her depth as a federal pollie?
Michael Robinson, Beauty Point.
Chinese Student
PERHAPS the Chinese Students Association at UTAS need reminding we live in a democracy, and as such are guests here, albeit, full fee-paying ones.
All voices are heard equally.
Max Wells, Sorell.
Climate Emergency
WHAT proof did you use to declare a climate emergency?
Vicki Newman, Launceston.
Sustainability
NO sustainability program will work unless the population is sustainable.
That means a stable, static number.
The benefits will be high wages, low house prices and a preserved environment.
Will any political party support that?
Of course not. Labor wants immigrants for the welfare vote, and the Libs want immigrants to keep wages down.
