The woman had complained to Tasmania Police that they had not investigated her allegations and that they had communicated to Mr Hidding.

Deputy Police Commissioner Scott Tilyard confirmed that police had completed an internal investigation into the woman's complaints against police.

"With assistance from Western Australia Police, we were able to establish that the call was made by the complainant to WA Police on February 6, 2014.

"The complainant has since withdrawn the complaint relating to Tasmania Police."

The investigation into the alleged sexual assault is still ongoing.

Mr Hidding was Tasmania's longest serving state parliamentarian and resigned in February this year after the allegations dating back 40 years were made against him in the media.

He outed himself as the MP at the centre of the complaint by the woman and denied any wrongdoing.

"I am devastated at the false and malicious allegations leveled against me through the media," he said.

"These allegations have been made in the context of a wider, long-term bitter dispute within my wife's family, most recently over an estate.

"In the 40 years since she lived with us, the individual has never before raised these matters."
