That community is one the Launceston Circle Dancers will look to expand this week, with a number of events across the city as part of the Tamar Valley Peace Festival.
The style has a deep cross-cultural history and a more modern iteration formed out of Scotland in the 1960s, often connected to ideas of marking special occasions and bringing people together.
"Circle dancing is about equality," said one of the group's members, Julie Walpole. "It's about equality and community."

The group has about 15 regular dancers, meeting almost every Monday in at St Catherines Hall in Norwood. The dances vary in difficulty, with some as simple as walking.
"We've done it with people with walking sticks," Ms Walpole added. "Most dances we hold hands, most dances we're sharing."
"But if there's two people, we dance."
The Launceston Circle Dancers will bring their practice to the Quadrant Mall Peace Party from 4-8pm Friday and Saturday's Global Village Celebration at the Northern Suburbs Community Centre from 12.30pm.
