Before his half head win over the previously unbeaten Assertive Approach, the Scott Brunton-trained four-year-old had been quoted at $51 for the $7.5 million Golden Eagle at Rosehill on November 2.
He is now into $17 with online bookmaker Ladbrokes.
Fellow Tasmanian Mystic Journey had been favourite for the 1500m race until connections announced she would most likely stay in Melbourne for the Cox Plate.
She is still being kept safe in Golden Eagle betting at $8.
Brunton confirmed after The Inevitable's first-up success that he had his sights on Sydney's two new races restricted to four-year-olds.
The lead-up to the Golden Eagle is the $500,000 Silver Eagle over 1300m at Randwick on October 12.
Brunton said that The Inevitable deserved a crack at the top level.
"He's a serious racehorse, don't worry about that," Brunton told racing.com after the Flemington race.
"We were getting him ready for the Aurie's Star but thought that he was maybe lacking a bit of fitness (for a 1200m race).
"So we dropped him back to the 1000m race ... and it's worked out very good."
CARR ON FIRE
Jockey Siggy Carr capped a busy and successful weekend when she took riding honours at Spreyton on Sunday with a treble.
She scored on The Sword and Havana Deejay for leading trainer Scott Brunton and Gee Gee Bay Watch for Team Wells.
Carr and fiance Troy Baker also had a win at the Hobart harness meeting on Friday night with a horse they part-own, Ifbutzandmaybes.
The couple are also campaigning several gallopers in NSW and Baker stayed behind on Sunday to ride Coronation Pia (7th) and Merry Princess (10th) at Wagga.
Carr opened her account on The Sword who stalked favourite Harriman in the Class 3 Handicap before proving too strong.
She came from back in the field to win the Maiden Plate on Havana Deejay then again finished strongly on the highly-promising Gee Gee Bay Watch in the Class 1 Handicap.
Brunton's double came from his only two runners at the meeting.
Team Wells also finished with a double after taking the Benchmark 58 Handicap with Gee Gees Cricket, as did stable apprentice Peter Lui.
Trainer Glenn Stevenson was the other multiple winner.
His top sprinter I'm Wesley took a while to get warmed up in the Open Handicap but produced a strong finish to score by almost two lengths.
Stevenson also won the 1880m Benchmark 64 with Congomotion.
