Ricky Lee Smith-Towns, 27, came across Ziggy Hancock-Yost by chance on the corner of Blyth Street and Prossers Forest Road at Ravenswood on October 12, 2018.
Mr Hancock-Yost had intermittently contacted Smith-Towns' partner over the past eight years, which Smith-Towns was said to have taken issue with.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Upon seeing Mr Hancock-Yost riding a bike on the street, Smith-Towns punched the complainant, knocking him to the ground.
The court heard Smith-Towns returned the bike two months ago and apologised to Mr Hancock-Yost.
Defence counsel said Smith-Towns had five children with his partner of 10 years, as well as a daughter from a previous marriage.
It was said he had struggled with alcohol and substance abuse problems but was "showing signs of rehabilitation".
Justice Michael Brett, however, said Smith-Towns continued to offend and had breach suspended sentences for past convictions.
"You committed an act of arrogant thuggery," he told Smith-Towns.
Justice Brett said Smith-Towns' sentence would be recorded as having begun on Thursday, when he was first remanded in custody.
