His matter was adjourned until September until such time he has filed an application for legal aid to fund an appeal of his sentence.
Jones will reappear before the court on September 2 at 4.15pm.
The 43-year-old Launceston man is currently serving a 22 year sentence for the murder of Bradley Wade Breward on New Year's Day, 2017.
Jones tortured Breward over the whereabouts of a vehicle, following the theft of his Nissan Patrol in December 2016.
He put a $1000 bounty on Mr Breward's head and offered a $5000 reward for the return of the car.
Jones beat, waterboarded and suffocated Breward seeking information about the vehicle.
When sentencing Jones in July, Justice Robert Pearce said Jones failed to show any genuine remorse for the crime.
