Held in the Pyrenees, straddling the border between Spain and France, the titles were staged in the Spanish ski resort of La Molina.
In preparation for the steep conditions of the course area, Pedley and Brown spent a week training in the Pyrenees to acclimatise to both the altitude and conditions.
The course map covered 140 square kilometres with an altitude variance between 1300 and 2500 metres.
The 24-hour event started in thunderstorm conditions making it difficult for the 396 registered teams to begin.
While conditions eased during the night the pair were faced with extreme wind conditions when at the high altitude part of the course on Sunday morning.
The leading places in the category changed regularly during the event with Pedley and Brown finishing in second position with only seven minutes to spare. GPS tracking showed the pair covered just over 70km and climbed 3500m.
The pair were delighted with their podium finish.
In November, Tasmania will host the Australasian Rogaining Championships where Pedley and Brown will defend their Australian title won in Queensland in 2018.
Rogaining is a form of orienteering held over greater times and distances.
