On the same day Lauderdale dropped a game at lowly Clarence, the Bombers outclassed their Northern rivals for the third time this season, kicking six spectacular goals in the last term to win 14.11 (95) to 7.15 (57).

Brad Cox-Goodyer slotted two pearlers to bookmark the final quarter - the first a tap, run and bomb from 60m and the second a candy-sell and roost from the boundary - while Dakota Bannister, Taylor Whitford and debutant Will Haley each enjoyed moments of brilliance.

The result means North will travel to Lauderdale for a top-spot playoff next weekend, although UTAS Stadium's surface redevelopment has taken some shine off the quest for a third straight minor premiership.

"If you finish on top you just get a week off, that's about it, it doesn't mean anything," Whitford said.

"We're not hell-bent on finishing on top - it'd be really nice but I'd rather us play consistent footy throughout and build and be ready to go come the first week of September."

The journey to finals looks equally as intriguing for Launceston, who still appear favourite to pip Glenorchy for third spot.

Blues coach Mitch Thorp said his side had shown plenty in the loss.

"We believe North Launny are the best side," Thorp said.

"We think they're certainly the hardest side we've played this season and if they're the benchmark and that's how far we are off, we're not too far away.

"We've got quite a young group so overall we're tracking along ok."
