Although the Strikers played at the Launceston venue last season, the Stars make a debut appearance on December's penultimate evening, with the fixture set to clash with the second day of the annual Devonport Carnival.

With the opposing line-ups potentially boasting names like Marcus Stoinis and Travis Head, and featuring last year's semi-final rematch, Cricket Tasmania chief executive Nick Cummins is pleased with the fixture.

"Our first game in Launceston will be the prime-time game against Melbourne Stars, so we will be trying to exact some revenge," he said

"We've also got a real family-friendly time in the afternoon for the second Launceston game which should allow cricket fans from across the state to be able to come watch the game."

The fixture's announcement comes alongside a finals series revamp and a condensed playing schedule featuring more double-headers for the 2019-20 season.

Five teams are able to make the finals series with the fifth-placed side having to win four matches in a row in order to take the flag.

"I like it," Hurricanes coach Adam Griffith said.

"It's going to take a pretty good effort for someone finishing mid-card to win it but the reward is there for the top team."

The Hurricanes host six games with Melbourne Renegades, Brisbane Heat, Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder heading to Hobart.

The other 'home' game will be played at Traeger Park in Alice Springs against Sydney Sixers following a deal with the Northern Territory government.
