A $10 million tender for the works has been awarded to construction company Fairbrother.

The $12.95 million project will include a new administration space, new classrooms for grade 7 and 8 students and IT and first aid service infrastructure. A new art space has already been built.

Also included will be reconfigured parking, as well as a new bus turning circle and bus shelters.

Riverside High School principal Natalie Odgers said the redevelopment had been in its planning stages "for some time".

"It's really fantastic to see the works unfold and to be part of that journey," she said.

"And we are really looking forward to our students being able to move into much more contemporary learning spaces that reflect how students learn, that provide more space and more flexible ways for them to be working."

Fairbrother is aiming to complete the works by early 2020, but noted this would be subject to weather conditions in the coming months.

The company says being awarded the tender for the project has allowed it to increase its staff numbers in the North by an additional three workers, with the potential also there for more people to be employed.

Education Minister Jeremy Rockliff said the Riverside High School works were "a very important project" for the community.

"Not only are we teaching for a job-ready generation of young Tasmanians but we're creating jobs when it comes to our school infrastructure," he said.
