The season starts with the annual Lake Leake Trout Season Opener competition in early August.
Competition organiser Phil Gorringe said he hoped the frosty weather of July will be gone once August rolled in.
"The last two or three years in the first week of August we've had a dusting of snow [at Lake Leake]," Mr Gorringe said.
"It can get bitterly cold with a bit of snow.
"Hopefully we're getting the dirty weather right now and we might have clear sailing for Saturday the third [of August]."
The competition is a regular favourite for fishing fans.
"Last year 75 fishers braved conditions, [We're] hoping for similar attendance this year," Mr Gorringe said.
The competition will starts at first light and runs throughout the day for anglers young and old to have a go at landing a brown or rainbow trout.
Only trout caught from the lake will be judged, river fish will not be accepted.
In other news:
Mr Gorringe said Inland Fisheries had already put 1500 brown and 2013 rainbow trout in the lake in the past six weeks to top up natural spawning.
Capping off the day, competitors will weigh-in their trouts at the Lake Leake Inn at 5pm and 6pm.
New owners recently took over the venue.
"They have fantastic counter meals, everyone's talking about it," Mr Gorringe said.
Food will be available between 6pm and 8pm.
Once winners are announced on site, the night will be played out by musician Bobby Wilson.
MAST also recently approved a new pontoon to be installed at Lake Leake in late 2019 and early 2020.
"It's gonna be a great piece of infrastructure for the area," Mr Gorringe said.
"It will allow everybody to access the lake in a safer way when launching and retrieving their boats."
Mr Gorringe added that strong westerly and southeasterly winds across the lake make it incredibly difficult for boat operators to get in and out of the lake.
"If you are a sole operator and an old bloke it's been difficult to get your boats in and particularly out of the lake," Mr Gorringe said.
"I know people personally that can't access the lake at the moment because they just can't get their boats in and out."
