The celebration of all things scallops will feature cooking demonstrations from celebrity chefs, musical entertainment including the Bad Dad Orchestra, judging of scallop pies, a marine-themed fashion parade, fishing research and recreation displays and the great scallop splitters challenge, where the flashing knives of professional splitters race for the title of top knife.
Organiser Tony Scott said a highlight was sure to be the Mariners Muse, which will bring seafarers with unique experiences of the ocean to share tales of their "hi-jinks on the high seas".
"A group of presenters, all with different experience of the ocean, will speak of their adventures at the evening," he said.
"Solo around-the-world sailor Ken Gourlay will be joined by Launceston-born sailor Jo Breen, who will discuss her exploits racing and delivering yachts throughout the world.
"Jeff Jennings will discuss his re-enactment of a historic kayak trek around Tasmania's coast as just one of his ocean-going adventures, Dr Guiliana Musiani will describe her cruising experience not on ocean liners but aboard transnational freighters and 94-year old Alf Stackhouse will reminisce of his involvement with shipping and maybe a little flying as well around the Furneaux Islands.
"Local history buff Nigel Mercer will moderate the presentations, allowing some time for questions from the audience along with interludes for some sustenance and refreshments with the club bar open and tea and coffee at the ready."
Mariners Muse will be held on Wednesday, July 31, at the Bridport Golf Club from 6pm. Tickets cost $15 adults, $5 children, through the Bridport Pavilion Information Centre, through website Eventbrite, or on the door.
The Tassie Scallop Fiesta launch party is on Thursday, July 25, at the Bridport Hotel from 6pm, $40.
The big day itself is on August 4 at the Bridport Village Green from 10am-5pm, $10.
