The Bank of useful ideas will help bring ideas to life through measures such as financial support of up to $60,000, special loan arrangements, mentoring or networking.
... there are many more budding ideas out there that just need a little nudge in the right direction to get off the ground ...
- Paul Ranson
"For every cracking Tassie idea that has been successfully brought to life, there are many more budding ideas out there that just need a little nudge in the right direction to get off the ground and that's where the Bank of useful ideas comes in," Bank of us chief executive Paul Ranson said.
"And what better place for the first ever Bank of useful ideas than the City of Makers?"
He said the Burnie community had a sense of optimism, hope and confidence.
"We want to harness that enthusiasm and help Tasmanians bring their ideas to life ..." he said.
He said the bank believed the best ideas came from thinking about a community's needs and that was why the Bank of useful ideas would start with an opportunities workshop.
That would identify the needs of the area.
There would then be a call for new ideas relevant to the needs, possibly involving new businesses, initiatives or events.
A panel would choose which ideas to back.
"This is so much more than a community grant or sponsorship," Mr Ranson said.
"We're doing something that requires us to be involved, exert some energy, provide resources and even take on some risk - risk that we think is well worth taking."
The Burnie opportunity workshop will be on September 20.
People will be able to register to attend via www.bankofusefulideas.com.au
The development follows the bank deciding to review its sponsorship program.
Bank of us has branches in Devonport, Launceston, Hobart, Burnie, Ulverstone and Wynyard.
