This result comes from a poll undertaken by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission after the receipt of petition from the group Hobart not Highrise which was signed by over 1000 Hobart electors.
The principal question in the poll was "should the council support the building heights limits and other recommendations made by its planning officers?"
Of the 37,718 eligible voters, only 15,990 or 42.4 per cent provided a response to the poll.
Tasmanian Electoral Commissioner Andrew Hawkey said he believed this was a strong response for a stand-alone elector poll for a large council.

Voters were also asked if they preferred the building height limit in Height Area 1 to be lower than 60 metres and if they preferred the planning schemes remain unchanged.
The council is not bound to act on the result of the poll.
Regulating building heights has also been a topic of debate for the City of Launceston council who sought community consultation and commissioned a report from architectural consultant Paul Davies on the issue in 2018.
The council approved the report's recommendations in May which set minimum heights at 14 metres before a plan has to be released for public consultation, and a maximum height of 24 metres.
