The Torns climbed back from a 10-point first quarter deficit to bring the game within three at halftime.
This was largely due to an immense effort by forward Stella Beck, who ended the night with a team-high 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Interim coach Michael Johnston said Beck's play was fantastic.
"She keeps motoring and nothing phases her," Johnstone said.
"Beck's the kind of player you can build a team around."

However, the third quarter brought with it a dominating performance by the Hawks on both ends of the court.
The Hawks held the Torns to just 27 points in the second half.
Johnstone said the game highlighted the team's need to improve on their third quarter performance.
"We have a young developing team... if we want to start winning we need to think about the third quarter," he said.
The loss comes just a day after head coach Derrick Washington announced he would be leaving the team to pursue other basketball opportunities.
Johnstone said the team missed him but it was business as usual on the court.
