Rugged-up fans entered the stadium with high hopes for their teams.
For longtime Hawks fans, such as Launceston's Debbie Roach and Braiden Salter, 16, the game was a lock-in for the home team from the start.
"Hawks are gonna smash em," Braiden said.

Ms Roach has been a Hawks member for 19 years after having lived both in Victoria and Tasmania.
"He's [Braiden] been a member for 13 years and he's only just turned 16," she said.
Cara and Kyle Smylie travelled from Perth, Western Australia to see the game.
"It's school holidays right now so we thought why not visit?" Ms Smylie said.
The mother and son narrowly avoided missing the game due to the heavy snowfall at Cradle Mountain.
"We've been to Cradle Mountain as well and luckily we didn't get snowed in yesterday," Ms Smylie said.
About 13,006 people attended the game, which resulted in a convincing win by the Hawks.
