The Health and Community Services Union estimates Ashley Youth Detention Centre is lacking eight full-time equivalent staff resulting in each worker on average completing 10 hours of overtime each week to meet minimum staffing requirements.

Understaffing at Ashley Youth Detention has resulted in an increase in major incidents, a health and safety representative at the facility said.
