The council received the delivering excellence for a smaller council award [population under 15,000 people] by the Local Government Association of Tasmania.
Break O'Day mayor Mick Tucker said it was great for the community and council to be recognised for their efforts in bringing the national festival to St Helens.
"It's an absolutely incredibly honour for a small community who really does punch above its weight to come on top of a very prestigious award like this," Cr Tucker said.
"It's not the size of the dog in the fight it's the size of the fight in the dog and we've got a hell of a lot of fighters in Break O'Day."
Councillor Kristi Chapple nominated the town for the festival.
The Break O'Day area was given 12 weeks to prepare for the festival after St Helens was announced as the winning location in June 2018.
Though expected attendance was only 7000 people, about 30,000 festival-goers journeyed to St Helens for One Night Stand making it the most successful rendition of the festival to date.
The festival included hugely popular artists such as Peking Duk, Vance Joy, Tkay Maidza and Alex and the Astronauts as well as Launceston triple j unearthed winners The Sleepyheads.
"It's well deserved for the collaborations and partnerships that council has built within the community," Cr Tucker said.
"We couldn't have done it without the help and the support of the state government we are very pleased to have the support and opportunity that triple J and the ABC gave us to showcase Break O'Day to Australia and around the world."
Cr Tucker said One Night Stand was proof of what Break O'Day could accomplish as a community and that it was only the start of reaching the region's potential.
"There's no doubt about it, it's the tip of the iceberg. Look out there are big things to come, we've only just started this," Cr Tucker said.
