On Friday night the gallery will launch its new exhibition Intersections and is using the event to help raise funds for The Examiner's Winter Relief Appeal.
Academy Gallery director Malcom Bywaters said the gallery had always been a strong supporter of the Winter Relief Appeal because it as a grassroots community appeal that helped people.
"It's important the arts community is involved with the general community and this is a way for us to give back for a charitable cause," Mr Bywaters said.

At the event, patrons will be asked to donate a gold coin, although more is welcome, at the bar for the event, with gallery volunteers also roaming the event for donations.
In addition, for a donation to the appeal, patrons will receive a raffle ticket for one of Mr Bywaters' own artistic creations, to be raffled off to its new owner on the night.
Mr Bywaters said the work took about two or three months to complete and depicts a nocturnal landscape and a house.
He said growing up in regional Victoria had always given him inspiration as an artist and it was a theme he often returned to in his painting.

The Academy Gallery has supported the Winter Relief Appeal for a number of years and Mr Bywaters said each year he tried to outdo the previous year's tally.
"I think last year we raised just shy of $1000 so it would be good to beat that this year," he said.
The gallery is planning a few more Winter Relief Appeal events over the next two months.

Now in its 61st year, The Examiner's Winter Relief Appeal helps raise vital funds for four Launceston charities: the St Vincent de Paul Society, the Launceston Benevolent Society, the Salvation Army and the Launceston City Mission.
With a fundraising target of $75,000, the community is encouraged to get behind the appeal and support those most in need this winter.
