The Great Lake Hotel publican will hand the keys over to new owners, after the business being up for grabs for the last two years.

Ms Hattinger said she has had a lot of fun, adventures and a lot of challenges during her 15-year tenure, but hopes her last party is to celebrate a Collingwood grand final.

"The business settles on the 30th of September, and that will be our last day," she said. "Hopefully Collingwood make the grand final this year and the last party will be a Collingwood grand final victory."

Ms Hattinger believes the new owners have plans to progress the area.

"Being here for 15 years I wasn't prepared to get any bigger than what it is, but they're prepared to invest in the area which is just fabulous for the highlands."

The lakes needs more than wilderness, it needs reasons for people to come to the area, Ms Hattinger said.

"It needs to have services, and it needs to have somewhere to sleep. People's tastes have changed over the years. They're not just happy to have room with heating, they like to have the creature comforts and they've got the money to spend," she said.

"These new people look like they're going to do a development in the area and cater to all tastes not just to the budget traveller.

"Bronte [Park Chalet] burnt down and they're not going to rebuild, so there has been a real need for way more accommodation in the area. There is just not enough."

While she welcomes the change, Ms Hattinger said it would be a sad time for her.

"But I'm ready to go off and do something different and not work seven days a week for a while. That's what I've been doing for 15 years," she said.

"It's more than a business to me, I've taken everyone under my wing and this is more than a pub. It's a hub in the community. It's a place where we look after the whole area."
