Each grade 2 class decided to tackle the issue in a different way, for Ruth Erwin and Anna Heath's class the focus was on evaluating their own impact on the environment.
"We decided that we would collect our waste so for one day to see how much we use in our classroom," Ms Erwin said.
"We measured and it got to 7.5 metres long and we thought that was pretty disgusting so we thought of ways to reduce that plastic waste.
"After we [the pupils] all wrote a letter to parents to find a way to reduce waste for one day, it went down to 3.8 metres."
In other news:
Pupils wrote to Woolworths asking them questions on how the supermarket can reduce waste, receiving a visit from managers who answered their questions.
Some pupils have eliminated plastic wrapping from their lunchboxes, some have even started using beeswax wrapping instead of plastic wrap or ziplock bags.
They also worked on researching issues created by their impact on the environment, writing accompanying posters with messages on waste reduction.
"Don't leave the rubbish on the ground because animals could eat it and suffocate on it," pupil Cohen Niekamp, 8, said in his poster.
