Known in the francophone world as "quatorze juillet" or "la fête nationale", France's national day is the anniversary of Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789; a significant moment in the French Revolution.
For the Alliance Francaise de Launceston, this is the biggest event of the year.
Vice-President, Kaitlin Roach, says while the organisation tries to organise a monthly social event for French language enthusiasts, "quatorze juillet" is the one that receives most effort and attention.
"This year we are excited to return to our tried and tested format of a traditional three-course French lunch to celebrate quatorze juillet," she said.
"Richard Matson of Elmslie Tasmania has put together a delicious menu of warming winter food which will, of course, conclude with a selection of cheese.
"Our Bastille Day event is always open to the public and we hope through sharing our love of French language, culture and food we can grow the community's awareness of our volunteer-run organisation."
Launceston is host to one of the 850 Alliance Francaise branches across the globe, with 31 across Australia and three in Tasmania. The Alliance Francaise de Launceston teaches French language from beginners through to advanced conversational speakers on a Tuesday evening during school terms.
Social events such as film nights in conjunction with the Star Theatre, board game afternoons, seasonal picnics and cheese tastings are organised throughout the year.
